Funke CEO present at ASBU Convention 2017 moderating an interactive panel discussion
  
 
The Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) organized the 18th edition of the ASBU TV & Radio Festival & Convention from April 25th till 28th, 2017 in Hammamet (Tunisia). The Festival included several major events, such as the organization of the "ASBU Broadcast Convention", from April 26th till 28th, 2017.
 
The ASBU TV & Radio Festival & Convention is one of the biggest professional events in the Arab broadcasting scene. It gathers yearly hundreds of decision makers from all Arab countries and beyond. The event comprises several highly interesting manifestations for broadcasting decision makers and professionals.
 
Funke Digital TV was present to this convention with the presence of its CEO, Mr Stan Baaijens and its Sales Representative, Mr Gorka Ibáñez Landaluce.
 
                    
  
Our CEO, Stan Baaijens, moderated an interactive panel discussion which included the following topics on the benefits of DTT:
 
  • Possibility of multiple business models
  • Several conditions for success e.g. attractiveness to the audience
  • Cost savings due to very low OPEX
  • Accessibility of premium content
  • Employment: local content creates jobs
  • Preservation of national sovereignty
  • Enhanced content production
  • Resilient e.g. natural disasters
  • Spectrum stability in relation towards WRC 2023
  • International cooperation in favour of safeguarding the spectrum
 
Based on the discussions that took place, the ASBU Council recommends the following:
 
  • To invite the member organisations to complete the required actions to switch over to digital terrestrials broadcasting and to take the required educating and sensitizing steps towards the Audience to explain the advantages of this technology and of the services that it is providing.
  • To invite also the member organisations to increase their usage of the Radio and TV spectrum in order to preserve the current and future allocations.
 
The exhibition mainly targeted disseminating information among broadcasting professionals on new technologies, services and applications; new products and equipment; new audio-visual productions; most recent achievements; and new projects being carried out by different parties operating in the related fields.
 
Funke was honoured by a special visit of the Minister of Telecommunication Technologies & Digital Economy of the Republic of Tunisia.
 
        
  
His Excellency discussed with Funke’s CEO Stan Baaijens, who is also very active at EBU and DVB in Geneva, the importance of further progress of Tunisia’s ONT project for DTT in the country. He also encouraged everybody to cooperate with all stakeholders to make DTT successful, not only in Tunisia but also in its neighbourhood countries.
  
Furthermore, the gala dinner encouraged participants to (re)establish intercompany business contacts to improve cooperation of all stakeholders concerned.

The ASBU Broadcasting Exhibition was taking place from April 26th till 28th, 2017 at the Medina Expo Center in Yasmine Hammamet - Tunisia.
